J.A.Henckels "Friodur 78 1/2" Solingen, Germany
"For your consideration, your collection, or to add another phenomenal shaver to your rotation, I present you with this absolutely beautiful & all original "Friodur #78 1/2" Straight Razor, manufactured in Solingen, Germany by J.A.Henckels Zwillingswerk Factory. Also included with this razor is it's original box which is in good condition with moderate wear to the decals ~ see photos. If you're new to razors, and are not sure about the quality of vintage Henckels razors, rest assured, you're looking at one of the best shaving razors on eBay. This razor will come to you properly honed, with a well refined keen edge that is ready for shaving straight out of your mailbox. This razor features it's original ivory celluloid scales that are in excellent condition, with no cracks, chips, nicks, or warping. The face of the front scale features the "Friodur" & Henckels Insignia inlaya that are both in perfect condition. The black spacer is even on all sides and securely in place. Both pins & their collars are original to this razor, both are made of nickel silver, both are nice & tight, and both are in excellent condition with no signs of tampering or abuse. The blade is nice & tight on the pivot with no slack, wobble, or play in any direction. The pivot area is clean & spotless, with no rust, corrosion, or pitting. Both sides of the tang are bright, shiny, & clean with no rust, stains, or wear from oxidation. Both tang stamps are well defined with nice dark lettering that is free from any obvious signs of wear. Both sides of the blade's face feature their original factory finish that is in excellent condition, with no severe rust, stains, or pitting ~ the only signs of wear to either side of the blade's face are small scratches near the bevel from incorrect honing. This is cosmetic only and does not pose a threat to this razor's performance in any way. Both sides of the blade's spine have just a faint pattern of nice even hone wear, and the blade's total width measures well over 5/8". This blade is made of very high grade stainless steel that has been through a frozen tempering process known as cryogenic hardening. What does this mean? Since high carbon steel blades develop oxidation quickly, they tend to need more attention in order to keep them clean & performing properly ~ authentic Friodur blades on the other hand do not develop oxidation, therefore they are able to hold a nice smooth & keen edge for longer periods of time, making them one of the most phenomenal vintage shavers you will ever have the opportunity of owning. Depending on beard type, shaving technique, etc, this razor can be used numerous times without so much as a single stropping. The blade closes dead center between the scales and is tight at every point while opened. As with all of our razors, this one also comes with your satisfaction guarantee so you can bid with ease gentlemen!"

"This razor does not require oil as do carbon steel blades. Dry the razor as you would any other razor, but there is no need to apply any oil because it will not rust with regular use.
The Henckels Factory was destroyed during a raid during World War II, so all records were lost. After that time very few records were kept. I am frequently in contact with the Henckels Corporate Office in Germany attempting to get dates, etc, however that office is rarely able to help me with accurate information. This means it is very difficult to date a razor made by them. By my estimate, I believe this razor to be from 1950's and possibly as late as the early 1960's. I do not believe it to be any younger than this.
Be very careful when purchasing Henckels razors. There are many fake Henckels being produced right now, and many respectable & trustworthy gentlemen are taking part in this profit based scam. The main most important Henckels to watch out for is the Henckels in which has 1 man logo instead of the "Twin" logo with 2 men. I have spoken to Henckels in Germany, and they have turned this matter over to their legal department to be investigated. Henckels did use a 1 man logo, but it was only used on flatware, such as forks, bread knives, & spoons. This 1 man logo was never used on any razor. Most of these razors are being manufactured in Albania, and sold in Albania and Italy. Profit can corrupt many good men, so be very careful who you trust.
I hope this answers your question. Many thanks and God Bless, Quinton"
